Head and legs move independently

The two sections are controlled separately, which is the point. Raising the head alone gives you a reading position. Raising the legs alone takes load off the lumbar spine and helps with swelling and circulation in the lower legs. Raising both together produces the contoured position most people settle into, with the knees slightly bent so the body is not sliding down the bed all night.

A mattress built to bend

An adjustable base is only as good as the mattress on it, and an ordinary sprung mattress will not articulate. This one uses a flexible foam construction with a pressure-relieving comfort layer, quilted into a damask cover, so it follows the contour of the base cleanly instead of creasing across the hinge points. A side handle helps with repositioning.

Lower it flat and what stands in the bedroom is a fabric divan on chrome glides with a matching headboard behind it. There is no exposed frame, no clinical rail, and nothing that announces itself to a visitor.

Split adjustment for two people

On larger sizes the base splits, giving each side its own motor and its own controls. One person can sit up with the light on while the other lies flat. Neither is compromising for the other, which is usually why adjustable beds get ruled out of a shared bedroom before anyone has tried one.

Getting in and out

Raising the head section to near-upright brings you to the edge of the bed sitting rather than rolling, which takes most of the effort out of standing up.
